4. Medical and Food Industry


The commonly used medical silicone oil is polydimethylsiloxane. With its defoaming property, it can be made into swelling tablets for abdominal distension and aerosol for pulmonary edema. It can also be used as an anti-adhesion agent for preventing intestinal adhesion in abdominal surgery, as a defoaming agent for gastric juice in gastroscopy and as a lubricant for some medical surgical instruments.


Silicone oil can also be used as organosilicon defoamer for food industry. Food-specific polysiloxane resin can be emulsified with it. Other products can be directly used as oil-based products. Such defoaming occasions include fermentation and sugar production, and other anti-foaming in food production.


Silicone grease is a kind of organic silicone grease, which is made from food grade silicone oil thickened by inorganic thickener and added with many additives such as anti-oxidation, anti-corrosion and so on. Food grade silicone grease is designed for sealing and lubricating of food processing equipment. It does not contain any toxic substances and heavy metals and is absolutely safe for food.


Silicone oil paper is a kind of commonly used packaging paper, which has three layers of structure. The first layer is base paper, the second layer is shower film, and the third layer is silicone oil. Silicone oil paper is generally used in food packaging because of its high temperature resistance, moisture resistance and oil resistance.


5. Surface treatment


Mainly used for waterproofing and anti-fouling of glass fiber materials, with excellent waterproofing performance. The wind erosion resistance and hydrophobicity of building materials can be improved by silicone oil treatment. The above properties can be displayed by adding 0.1% to 0.15% (mass fraction) or higher solids silicone oil emulsion in the mortar, and improving the compatibility and fluidity of the mortar. Silicone oil can also be used for asbestos, cement, gypsum board, etc.


6. Defoamer


Silicone oil is widely used as defoamer.


In textile printing and dyeing processes, such as sizing, desizing, refining, bleaching and dyeing, it is added as defoamer; in petrochemical industry, drilling, oil and gas separation, demulsification, oil refining, lubricating oil and cutting fluid, it is used in papermaking industry and paint ink; in detergent industry, it is added as defoamer. Foaming agents; and organosilicon defoamers used in the food industry mentioned earlier.


7. Other Applications


In addition, silicone oil can also be used as various additives of silicone rubber, paint leveling agent, antistatic agent, surfactant and so on. It is widely used in many fields of daily life and industrial manufacture.
