Defoamer, also known as defoaming agent, is used to reduce the surface tension in food processing, inhibit foam production or eliminate foam additives. The licensed Defoamers in China are emulsified silicone oil, high-carbon alcohol fatty acid ester complex, polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene pentaerythritol ether, polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene glycol amine ether, polyoxypropylene glycerol ether, polyoxypropylene polyoxyethylene glycerol ether and polydimethylsiloxane.


Most defoamers are liquid compound products, which are mainly divided into three categories: mineral oils, organosilicon and polyethers. Mineral oil defoamers are usually composed of carriers and active agents. The carrier is a material with low surface tension. Its function is to carry and dilute. The commonly used carriers are water, fatty alcohol, etc. the role of active agents is to inhibit and eliminate froth, commonly used wax, aliphatic amide, fat and so on. Organosilicon defoamers generally include polydimethylsiloxane and so on. Silicone defoamers have poor solubility. They have the characteristics of fast defoaming speed and good foam suppression at room temperature, but they have the characteristics of delamination, slow defoaming speed and poor foam suppression at high temperature. Polyether defoamers include polyoxypropylene oxide ethylene glycerol ether and so on. Polyether defoamers have the characteristics of long antifoaming time, good effect, fast defoaming speed and good thermal stability. For example, defoamers are used in the production of fruit and vegetable beverages, soybean products, sucrose and so on.
