Common problems and functions of Defoamers in use
In industrial production, some foam producing areas will often use defoamer to eliminate harmful foam in the production process. There may also be many problems in the use of defoamers. Today, let's summarize the following problems and functions.


I. The turbidity of defoamers


Defoamers do not exist in a dissolved state in the system. They are usually suspended in the system. Therefore, the amount and color of hydrophobic particles, silicone oil and hydrophobic particles are very important. As a result, the performance of defoamers varies greatly. However, as long as the defoaming effect is good and the antifoaming time is long, there will be no big problem.


2. Antifoaming time of defoamers


The properties of silicone oil in defoamer determine the antifoaming time of defoamer. The amount of silicone oil determines the use time of defoamer in the system. The size of defoamer determines the filter resistance of defoamer. Large particle size or inadequate stirring of defoamer may result in defoamer being filtered out. The defoamer commonly used in sewage treatment will be filtered many times. If the defoamer is filtered out in filtration, it will have an impact on defoaming and anti-foaming.


3. Failure of defoamers


The problem of acid-base stability, if the acid and alkali resistance of defoaming is not good, causes the decomposition of silicone oil, resulting in the failure of defoamer. Some chemical components dissolve silicone oil into the system, so that defoamer no longer has the function of defoaming, but as a surfactant system, the foam of the system will be more than that without adding defoamer.


Correct use of defoamers can achieve twice the result with half the effort. There are many kinds of defoamers on the market, such as fermentation defoamers, sewage treatment defoamers, organosilicon defoamers, textile printing and dyeing defoamers, polyether defoamers, etc. So we must choose the appropriate defoamer according to the industry and application system, only in this way can the effect be more obvious.


4. List the functions of defoamers


Defoamer is mainly used to reduce the surface tension and eliminate foam during processing. Most of the bubbles are produced by external forces. The surface active substances in the solution are formed at the junction of solution and air, forming bubbles and floating up. In food processing, such as fermentation, stirring, boiling, concentration and other processes can produce a large number of bubbles, affecting the normal operation, it must be eliminated or prevented from producing in time.


There are two kinds of defoamers: one can eliminate the bubbles, such as ethanol; the other can inhibit the formation of bubbles, such as emulsified silicone oil; at present, the permissible Defoamers in China are emulsified silicone oil, high-carbon alcohol fatty acid ester complex, polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene pentaerythritol ether, polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene glycol amine ether, polyoxypropylene glycerol ether and polyoxypropylene oxide ethylene oxide. There are 7 kinds of alkylene glycerol ether and polydimethylsiloxane.
