The Difference between Silicone Gel and Silicone Rubber(I)

Silicone rubber has been widely used, but the understanding and distinction between silicone rubber and silica gel may not be understood by some people, and the term is not fixed. The difference and classification between silicone rubber and silicone rubber are introduced in detail in today's edition. At present, the concept of the word "silica gel" is not standardized, because so far there is no national express terms. When we hear the word "silica gel", we must understand whether it is silicon dioxide or silicone rubber, or whether it is inorganic silica gel or organic silica gel after all.

There are several related terms for "silica gel": silicone rubber, silica gel and silica rikang. The relationship between silicone rubber and silica gel, silica gel is different but contains silicone rubber, silicone rubber is the organic "silica gel" in "silica gel". "Silica gel" is the saying of Hong Kong and Taiwan. It is called "silica gel" in mainland China. Silica gel and Silicon Likang are the transliterations of silicone in English. We usually say it also means "silica gel".

In summary, silica gel can be divided into organic silica gel and inorganic silica gel according to its properties and components.

Talk about Silicone Rubber

I. Performance and Technical Parameters of Silicone Rubber

Silicone rubber is one of the most productive and widely used products in organic silicone products. Silicone rubber vulcanized has excellent resistance to high, low temperature, weathering, hydrophobicity, electrical insulation, physiological inertia and other characteristics.

The main properties and applications of silicone rubber products: According to its vulcanization temperature, silicone rubber can be divided into high temperature (heating) vulcanization type and room temperature vulcanization type. High temperature rubber is mainly used to manufacture various silicone rubber products, while room temperature rubber is mainly used as adhesives, filling materials or moulds.

Thermally vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV)

Thermally vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV) is the most important type of organic silicone products. Methyl vinyl silicone rubber (VMQ) is the main variety of HTV, commonly known as high temperature rubber. Methyl vinyl silicone rubber (raw rubber) is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-mechanical impurity rubber. Raw rubber is blended with appropriate reinforcers, structural controllers, vulcanizates and other additives as required. Then it is molded or extruded by heating, and then vulcanized into various products by two-stage vulcanization. Its products have excellent electrical insulation, strong resistance to arc, corona and spark, water-proof, moisture-proof, impact resistance, good seismic resistance, physiological inertia, permeability and other properties. Mainly used in aviation, instrumentation, electronics and electrical appliances, navigation, metallurgy, machinery, automobile, medical and health departments, can be used as sealing rings, gaskets, tubes, cables of various shapes, human organs, blood vessels, breathable membranes and rubber molds, precision casting release agent, etc.

Room Temperature Vulcanized Silicone Rubber (RTV)

Room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber generally includes condensation and addition. Addition room temperature adhesive is based on linear polysiloxane with vinyl group and hydrogen-containing siloxane as crosslinking agent. In the presence of catalyst, it crosslinks at room temperature to medium temperature and becomes elastomer. It has good heat resistance, hydrophobicity and electrical insulation. At the same time, due to the introduction of active end groups, it has excellent physical and mechanical properties, especially in tensile strength, relative elongation and tear strength. It is suitable for various vulcanization methods, such as radiation vulcanization, peroxide vulcanization and addition vulcanization. It is widely used in heat resistance, moisture resistance, electrical insulation, high strength silicone rubber products and so on.

Condensed room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber is characterized by the condensation reaction between silicone hydroxyl group and other active substances. It can be crosslinked into elastomer at room temperature. The product can be divided into two forms: one-component packaging and two-component packaging. One-component room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (RTV-1) is one of the main products of condensed liquid silicone rubber. Usually it is made up of basic polymers, crosslinking agents, catalysts, fillers and additives. The product is packed in a sealed hose and extruded when used. After contacting with air, it can vulcanize itself into elastomer, which is very convenient to use. Vulcanizates can be used for a long time in the temperature range (- 60 ~200 C). They have excellent electrical insulation and chemical stability, water resistance, ozone resistance, climate aging resistance, and good adhesion to a variety of metal and non-metal materials. Mainly used for coating various electronic components and electrical equipment, encapsulation materials play the role of insulation, moisture-proof and shock-proof; as surface protection materials for semiconductor devices; also as sealing filler and elastic adhesive.
