IOTA 6289 is a polymethylalkyl-functionalized silicone resin specifically designed for cementitious materials. This product is a low-viscosity, reactive polymer whose core function is to provide integral and permanent hydrophobic properties to the system through chemical reactions with cement hydration products, rather than merely forming a physical barrier film.

Its mechanism of action begins during the mixing stage. IOTA 6289 readily disperses in the highly alkaline environment of cement paste. The alkoxy (-OR) and reactive silyl (-Si-) functional groups within its molecular structure possess high reactivity. During the cement hydration process, these functional groups undergo irreversible chemical reactions with hydration products such as calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H), forming stable siloxane (Si-O-Si) bonds. This process permanently grafts the hydrophobic silicone molecules onto the microstructure of the cementitious matrix via covalent bonding. This chemical bonding process is the fundamental guarantee of its long-term performance.

This chemical reaction leads to two key technical benefits: significant water repellency and reduced mixing water demand. After the resin molecules are grafted onto the surfaces of the cement hydrates, they alter the energy state of the capillary pores and internal surfaces, changing them from hydrophilic to hydrophobic, thereby effectively preventing the capillary absorption and penetration of liquid water. Simultaneously, due to its hydrophobic effect, the amount of mixing water required to achieve the same workability is reduced. This helps lower the water-to-binder ratio, which may indirectly improve the final mechanical strength and density of the material.

Based on the above mechanism, IOTA 6289, as an efficient integral waterproofing admixture, is primarily used in the following applications: directly added as a chemical admixture during the mixing of cementitious materials (such as concrete, mortar, gypsum products) to provide integral waterproofing and impermeability properties; significantly enhancing the material's resistance to liquid water ingress, thereby improving its freeze-thaw resistance, weathering resistance, and corrosion resistance (e.g., preventing steel reinforcement corrosion); used as a water repellent in the production of dry-mix mortar products that require moisture and mold resistance (such as waterproof putties, bonding and rendering mortars for insulation systems); and applied in various concrete structures requiring deep waterproofing, such as underground engineering, reservoirs, bridges, and docks, to extend their service life.
