"Silicone oil" in the global military eight applications!
During World War II, silicone oil had a great influence in the war. When Germany invaded the former Soviet Union that year, it was facing a severe winter once in a hundred years. Oil inside the machinery was frozen. All tanks and armoured equipment of the mechanized forces of Fascist Germany and the former Soviet Union combat forces could not be used. In the face of this harsh situation, scientists in the former Soviet Union have found that a mixture of substances and oils can prevent freezing, which is silicone oil as we know it today. It is said that because of silicone oil, the former Soviet Union gained a great advantage, defeated German fascism and made an important contribution to the world anti-fascist war.
Because of the particularity of military facilities and equipment, some materials with excellent properties are often used to manufacture them, and silicone oil is one of them. Silicone oil is often used militarily in these ways:
Instrument Oil
Using silicone oil as instrument oil has the characteristics of long service life, good oxidation stability, low volatility and wide temperature range. There are three series of silicone oil instrument oil products in China, namely - 60 - 120 (?), - 60 - 150 (?) and - 60 - 200 (?), which are widely used for lubrication of precision instrument bearings, various aeronautical timing instruments, micro motor bearings and various instruments.
Specific liquids
In the automatic control system of modern aircraft, a large number of liquid-floated gyroscopes, float accelerators, magnetic compasses and sensors are used. Most of them use liquid suspension to reduce bearing load and friction moment, improve sensitivity, accuracy and stability. Required liquids have specific viscosity and density, good viscosity-temperature properties and low solidification point. The representative silicone oil special liquids include 4118 gyroscope oil, 4119 damper oil, 4120 sensor oil 4126 gyroscope instrument oil and so on.
Hydraulic oil
Air Force divides hydraulic oils into six categories according to the working temperature range of hydraulic system. The working temperatures of the third and fourth categories are - 54 - 204 C and - 54 - 288 C, respectively. Silicone oil and silicate ester are most likely to meet the specifications of these two types of oils. The products of Oronite 8200, 8515, 70 in the United States based on hexa-(2-ethylbutoxy) disiloxane meet the specifications of MIL-H-8446 synthetic hydraulic oil. OS-45, OS-45-1 in the United States, FH-4 and FH-8 in France, and 4601 and 4602 aviation hydraulic oils in China are also such products, but the working temperature is - 54-175 C. Methyl chlorophenyl silicone oil is also used as aircraft hydraulic oil, such as F-50, DP-47, MS-6 in the United States, BT-301 in the former Soviet Union, etc.
