Jiangnan University was formed in 2001 by the merger of Wuxi Light Industry University (the main body of Jiangnan University), Jiangnan University (following the former Rongshi private Jiangnan University) and Wuxi Education Institute.
Founded on November 17, 1958, it is the first light industry college in China.
In January 2001, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Wuxi Light Industry University, Jiangnan University and Wuxi Education College merged to form Jiangnan University.
On August 1, 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the former Wuxi campus of Donghua University was integrated into Jiangnan University as a whole.

Environmental Engineering: the major of environmental engineering is characteristic of Jiangsu Province. Fashion design and Engineering: the major of fashion design and engineering was founded in 1985. Internet of things Engineering: the school of Internet of things engineering of Jiangnan University is the first college of Internet of things in China.
