How are low-cost rubber products formulated?

Hits: 273 img

The pressure on market competition will be even greater in 2019. How to establish a foothold in a traditional rubber industry? Ordinary traditional rubber products are in a saturated state in China. How can we stand out in the fierce market competition. Today we are mainly talking about the same physical and chemical properties of rubber products. How are low-cost formulations designed for SMEs? (No other operating costs of the plant will be explained)

A mature formula suitable for factory production will include: raw rubber, activator, accelerator, vulcanizing agent, antioxidant, plasticizer (softener), filler, reinforcing agent, special colorant, conductive, flame retardant And functional additives (flow, demolding, etc.). Of course, in theory, the simpler the formula, the less the material, the better it can meet the performance requirements. This is the general state-owned enterprises and major OEMs. The choice of materials must be branded and must be genuine (the purpose is stability and consistency). Higher level. Today we are mainly discussing how small and medium-sized rubber companies can design low-cost rubber product formulations.

When the factory comes with a new product order (with physical properties or samples) or the original rubber product needs to reduce the material cost, we consider the formula to consider the formula:

1.Raw rubber
Choose to use recycled rubber that can meet the requirements. If you ca n’t meet the requirements, use raw rubber or expired raw rubber. Finally, choose and use raw rubber to meet the index requirements when you do n’t reach the physical and chemical properties. .
Low price, low price is obvious to low cost. The density is small, the cost per unit volume is low, and the cost of the product rubber is also low. Generally, the density of non-polar rubber is small. The smaller density rubber is ethylene-propylene rubber, butadiene rubber, etc. In addition, the combination of rubber and plastic can also reduce the density.
Even if the amount of carbon black and oil is increased, the rubber with high fillability, such as oil-filled styrene-butadiene rubber and oil-filled styrene-butadiene rubber, does not reduce its wear resistance. From a cost perspective, it is advantageous to use these raw rubbers. Therefore, this year, oil-filled styrene-butadiene rubber and butadiene rubber are mostly used for tire matching.
Ethylene propylene rubber is the rubber with the largest filling capacity. It can be filled with 50-80 parts of medium particle thermal cracked carbon black, semi-reinforced carbon black, and fast-pressed carbon black, and it can maintain certain physical properties and can significantly reduce costs.
Chlorinated polyethylene developed in recent years is also an elastomer that can be filled with a large amount of filler. Tests show that adding 300 parts of inexpensive porous powdered silica filler to chlorinated polyethylene can still maintain good tensile properties and have a significant effect on reducing costs.

Renewable resources
The use of recycled rubber is a more obvious way to reduce costs. The price of recycled rubber is low and it contains reusable parts of antioxidants, carbon black, accelerators, and active agents. In particular, recycled rubber is sometimes used instead of raw rubber. Recycled rubber should be used as much or as much as possible in the low and mid-range products. Some special rubbers such as nitrile rubber, fluorine rubber, silicone rubber, chloroether rubber, and acrylate rubber are properly blended with recycled rubber, and sometimes their performance does not decrease much, but they can greatly improve process performance.
It's a good thing that kills two birds with one stone. Reasonable use of vulcanized rubber powder is also one of the important ways to reduce costs. The rubber industry has been exploring effective methods for recycling waste rubber products for many years, which is of great significance for reducing the cost of rubber products. In addition to being used on highways, vulcanized rubber powder is also a good filler for rubber, which has the characteristics of low price, low density, good affinity and so on. Adding a small amount of vulcanized rubber powder to the tire tread rubber can also appropriately improve the abrasion resistance and tear resistance. Fine rubber powder and activation modification of rubber powder can further increase the use value of rubber powder in rubber.
Making full use of vulcanized waste rubber edges and scrap products is also an effective way to reduce the cost of certain rubber products.
There are recycled second-hand rubber chemical raw materials on the market, among which there are raw rubber, additives, fillers, etc., which will be sold to customers at very low cost. Relative testing or empirical use will greatly reduce the raw material cost of rubber products (note the continuity, consistency and stability of the material).

3. Reinforcing agent
Reinforcing agent is recommended to meet the physical and chemical properties, choose 2-3 carbon black, use oil to find the hardness and process operability, meet the product's physical and chemical properties and reduce the gel content, to achieve the purpose of reducing costs. The cost of the main carbon black is lower than that of raw rubber, but if the design formula can be developed with a large amount of filler (described below), the cost will be lower.

4. Matching of filler and operating oil
Generally, fillers are relatively cheap. No matter which one is used, as long as the amount is increased, the cost can be greatly reduced. But at the same time, it must add the operating oil corresponding to its performance and amount.
As inexpensive fillers, inorganic fillers such as calcium carbonate and clay are generally used. Generally, these inorganic fillers have large particle sizes, hydrophilic surfaces, and poor compatibility with rubber. Therefore, their reinforcing properties are far inferior to carbon black. Increasing the amount of these fillers often leads to a significant decrease in the vulcanizate performance. In order to improve the binding ability of inorganic fillers and rubber macromolecules and increase their filling amounts, they need to be subjected to various surface modification treatments.
For example, using low-molecular-weight carboxylated polybutadiene grafted calcium carbonate can significantly improve the tear strength, elongation stress, and abrasion resistance of vulcanizates, and also make the compounds have good moisture resistance and electrical properties. And improve the processing performance of rubber, increase the filling amount, and partially replace the semi-reinforced carbon black.
The combined use of calcium carbonate treated with titanate and silane coupling agent and precipitation silica can improve the processing performance of EPDM rubber, increase the filling amount, reduce the amount of silica, and maintain the performance index. Reduced rubber cost.
In order to reduce material costs, a variety of inexpensive fillers have been developed in China in recent years. Most of these fillers belonged to industrial waste and environmental pollution sources in the past, and after development and application, they achieved significant economic and social benefits. Cheap non-reinforcing fillers, which have good application effects in rubber products include red mud, oil shale ash, silica-alumina carbon black, wollastonite powder, porous powder quartz, active silicon powder, and highly transparent white slip powder.

   5. Other fillers (activation, vulcanization, promotion, anti-aging, etc.)
In the station where the proportion of formula filling is relatively small, the proportion of formula material is relatively small (the proportion of formula stability is the largest), it is recommended to choose a strong brand with good effect. To design the most cost-effective rubber formula, stabilize the material, optimize the mix, and ensure the stability and compliance of rubber products.

Summary: In order to design a low-cost rubber formula and meet the physical properties of rubber products, it is necessary to have sufficient experience and relatively high raw material testing methods to control the use of recycled rubber, resumption, expiration, and used rubber chemical raw materials in the formula and process. Practicality, producing suitable rubber products in own factory.
