School History
One
Jiaozuo road and mine school, founded in 1909, is located in Jiaozuo, Henan Province. In 1931, it was renamed as private Jiaozuo Institute of technology.
In 1938, the University moved to the West and established the national Northwest Institute of technology jointly with Northeastern University, Beiyang University and Beiping University. In 1946, Jiaozuo Institute of technology resumed and moved back to Jiaozuo in 1949. In 1950, the school moved to Tianjin and changed its name to China Institute of mining.
In 1952, the mining departments of Tianjin University, Tangshan Jiaotong University and Tsinghua University were transferred to China Institute of mining. As a result, the University gathered the first-class mining science and technology talents in China.
In 1953, the school moved to Beijing and changed its name to Beijing Institute of mining. In 1970, the school moved to Hechuan, Sichuan, and changed its name to Sichuan Institute of mining. In 1978, the Beijing Graduate Department of China Institute of mining was established at the original site of Beijing College Road to resume the recruitment and training of graduate students; in 1988, the school was renamed China University of mining and technology, and Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally wrote the name of the school. In 1997, China University of mining and Technology (Beijing Campus) was established; in 1998, undergraduate enrollment was resumed; in 2000, the University was transferred to the management directly under the Ministry of education.
In January 2003, it was approved by the Central Compilation department to run the school in the name of "China University of mining and Technology (Beijing)". In 1997, the University was identified as the national "211 Project" key construction university. In 2006, it became the "985 advantage discipline innovation platform project" construction university. In 2017, it became the first-class discipline construction university.
